Sackerson, a draft

It’s a sequel.

It’s a prequel.

It’s a time travel piece, part of Endless Tempest, so anything goes, right?

Actually, I’m strong on staying consistent with my original world build (nothing bugs me more than such inconsistencies when I’m reading another series). What readers will find in [working title Sackerson] will explain a good deal of just who this guy Sackerson is and how it is he’s so well-informed in Future Fugitives. The same character also is a major player in Lost & Found, by the way.

If you’re reading this and have yet to read those other books in the Endless Tempest series, proceed with caution. I don’t want to ruin your read.

It’s actually very complicated, for I set out to write nothing more than an accompanying piece, something that provided some colorful backstory, but then things continued to blossom to the point I had another hundred thousand words to package up.

Sackerson examines the future, about 200 years beyond elements of the rest of the series which readers may have encountered to date. Through the eyes of a contemporary (a kid from 2028 who’s ‘landed’ in that future) we encounter several cultures and the impact rampant tech has had on them. We deal with an anti-hero (this kid) and a hero (former knight) who’s hung up his gun taking on a number of villainous sorts (one stylized after Zark Muckerberg, at least in his appearance).

The book answers a lot of question I had about the person of Sackerson. Why is his scalp covered in tattoos? How does he survive a gunfight? How is he so knowledgeable in Future Fugitives? Sackerson’s motives are fully explored, as is his peculiar nature.

All that, and it’s a good romp, too.

Book description:

Finding himself in a hostile future, a young man from Oklahoma is forced to adopt the name “Renwick.” He is immediately and constantly on the run. It seems everyone else has a plan for him. Initially, Renwick just wants to explore this new world until he can find a way out of it.

Everything’s complicated, from his social standing to his inevitable love interests. Some want his head on a pike, while others want him to lead their people.

And no one will let him be…even in the desert 500 miles from anywhere.

Will he rise to expectations, or will he cower in the shadows? Can a reforming misanthrope from Oklahoma make a difference in the messed up world and time he’s found himself in?

Only time will tell.
